About the department

The Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Coimbatore Medical College was established in 1980 under the leadership of Dr. C. N. Ramaswamy. Since its inception, the department has been a center of excellence in plastic surgery, offering advanced care and reconstructive procedures. The postgraduate M.Ch course was introduced on 28th February 2006, and since then, the department has continuously grown, providing exceptional service to the community through specialized treatments in burns, microvascular, cosmetic, and trauma surgeries.

Dr. R. Senthilkumar, MS, M.Ch (Plastic Surgery)

Head of the Department

Dr. R. Senthilkumar, MS, M.Ch (Plastic Surgery), currently heads the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. With a wealth of experience from reputed institutions like Madurai Medical College and Coimbatore Medical College, he has played a vital role in advancing surgical education and patient care. His leadership has greatly contributed to the department’s academic strength and service excellence. He is a life member of several national associations and serves on multiple institutional committees including the Burns Unit, Drug Committee, and Transgender Clinic.

Katherine spent three years in a rotating position at schools in the Associated Colleges of the South (Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX; Furman University in Greenville, SC; and Rhodes College in Memphis, TN).
