About the department
The Department of Medical Oncology at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital was established in 2013 under the umbrella of the Regional Cancer Center. It was formed alongside Surgical Oncology and Radiation Oncology to deliver comprehensive cancer care in the region. Since its inception, the department has been dedicated to advancing cancer treatment, education, and research for patients in and around the Coimbatore district.

Dr. M. Prabagar, MBBS, MD (General Medicine), DM (Medical Oncology),
Dr. M. Prabagar, MBBS, MD (General Medicine), DM (Medical Oncology), is the Head of the Department of Medical Oncology. With over 15 years of teaching experience, he has served in various capacities from Junior Resident to Professor. A distinguished member of several national oncology societies, he actively contributes to research, ethical review boards, and scientific committees. His leadership has helped in shaping the DM Medical Oncology program initiated in 2022.

Achievments
Initiated the DM Medical Oncology course in 2022.
Dr. Priyanka Raju and Dr. Chakkaravarthy R.K. won First Prize in a quiz competition at the Coimbatore Oncological Society’s 100th meeting.
Dr. Priyanka Raju cleared her DM Medical Oncology final exam on the first attempt.
All PGs have actively participated in national-level conferences and presented research papers and posters.
