About the department

The Department of Dentistry at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital has been serving the community since the 1950s. It has established itself as a vital wing of the hospital, providing high-quality diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic oral health services. With a focus on patient-centered care, the department has evolved over the decades to include modern dental practices, advanced technology, and comprehensive training for dental graduates.

Dr. S. Jaikailash, MDS, DNB,

Head of the Department

Dr. S. Jaikailash, MDS, DNB, currently serves as the Head of the Department of Dentistry. With a distinguished academic and professional career, he has been associated with the department since 2001. He progressed from Assistant Professor (2001–2007) to Associate Professor (2007–2011), and is now serving as Professor since 2011. Dr. Jaikailash is a proud member of esteemed professional bodies including the Indian Dental Association and the Indian Academy of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics. His commitment to dental education and patient care continues to inspire both faculty and students.

Katherine Panagakos earned her M.A. in Classics from Tulane University and her Ph.D. in Greek and Latin from The Ohio State University. During her graduate work, she was a student at The American School of Classical Studies at Athens (ASCSA) and was a field walker and camp manager at the Eastern Korinthia Archaeogical Survey (EKAS). Katherine spent three years in a rotating position at schools in the Associated Colleges of the South (Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX; Furman University in Greenville, SC; and Rhodes College in Memphis, TN).
