About the department

The Department of Cardiology at Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital was established in 1974. It has grown into a high-volume tertiary care center catering to the cardiac needs of patients from Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, and The Nilgiris. The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, operational since 2018, has facilitated over 10,000 coronary angiographies and 4,000 coronary angioplasties, including 95 permanent pacemaker implantations. Advanced structural interventions such as PTMC, PBV, and device closures for ASD, VSD, and PDA are regularly performed. The lab is well-equipped with modern imaging tools like IVUS and OCT. The department began offering a DM Cardiology program in 2019, a Cardiac Cath Lab Technician course in 2020, and a B.Sc. Cardiac Technology course in 2021, expanding its academic and service outreach.
