About the department

Coimbatore Medical College, a distinguished institution in Tamil Nadu, houses a vibrant Department of Anatomy renowned for its cutting-edge facilities and commitment to medical education. The department boasts a spacious dissection hall, a well-equipped histology laboratory, and a unique museum showcasing rare dry and wet specimens. Actively engaging in academic and community initiatives, it hosts an annual CME for Anatomy Day, featuring Gross Anatomy posters and Histology presentations, while also organizing rallies to raise awareness about voluntary body donation. With a dedicated team comprising one professor (HOD in-charge), two associate professors, and five assistant professors, the department fosters excellence in teaching, research, and public service, solidifying its role as a cornerstone of medical learning.

Dr. R. Manonmani, a visionary leader in obstetrics and gynecology, has been steering the department as Professor and Head since 2016, following distinguished tenures as Assistant Professor (2005–2013) and Associate Professor (2013–2016). Her leadership extends beyond the department, with influential roles as President of the Board of Faculties (OBG) at The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chief District Obstetrician and MTP Committee Member for Coimbatore, and Appointed Assessor and PG Examiner for the National Board of Examinations. As an Expert Peer Reviewer for FOGSI’s GCPR on PCOS management and Past President of the Covai Obstetrics and Gynecology Society (COGS), she has significantly shaped women’s healthcare. Dr. Manonmani’s active involvement in the Ethical, Academic, Scientific, and Student Council Committees drives innovation, fosters academic excellence, and enhances patient care, making her a cornerstone of the department’s success.
