About the department
The Department of Paediatric Surgery at Coimbatore Medical College was established in 1975 with just 4 beds. Over the years, it has grown to become one of the most specialized and essential departments, now operating with a bed strength of 40. It offers surgical treatment for a wide range of congenital and acquired conditions in children. The M.Ch. Paediatric Surgery postgraduate course began in 1999 with 2 seats, and due to growing demand and excellence, the intake was increased to 4 seats in 2016.

Prof. Dr. R. Rengarajan, MS, MCh,
Prof. Dr. R. Rengarajan, MS, MCh, currently serves as the Head of the Department. With more than 17 years of professional experience, he has held various positions including Senior Resident, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and now Professor. He is a life member of IAPS, an examiner for the MCh course under The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, and has significantly contributed to academic and surgical advancements in paediatric care. He also serves as a Board Member of the DSD Council.
